SXSWのディズニーのセッション
現在、テキサス州オースティンに出張中。
SXSWのディズニーのセッション「The Future of World-Building at Disney」を見て、私が35年前に日本でグローバルイベントの運営を事業にしようと思ったことが思い出されました。1990年代に、日本の学会的なカンファレンスとアメリカのエンターテインメント的なカンファレンスを見て、その差に衝撃を受けたのです。ものすごく興奮しました！
あの頃、お金が全くなかったのに、ラスベガスやシリコンバレーのカンファレンスをたくさん視察して運営を学びました。（その頃の話も以前FBに書いた気がする）
海外のカンファレンス
いまだに日本ではこんなセッションはなかなか見れません。1時間というセッションの間に場面が何回も変わり、まるで演劇のようなプレゼンテーション、デモ、かけ合い。海外のキーノートやフィーチャーセッションは決してその場のアドリブですますなんてことはなく、一体これは何回リハーサルをやったのだろう？という出来上がりです。それも、各社のCEOクラスの人がそれを見せていくのです。カンファレンスに対する熱意の差が、グローバルでのプレゼンスの差なんじゃないかと、まさにスティーブ・ジョブズやビルゲイツなどのリハーサルに夜通しつきあいながら、あの頃は感じていました。
ちなみに、今回の2000人の会場には巨大な”返しモニタ：カンペ用”が天井から設置されていました。原稿などが表示されるのです。（休憩時に返しモニタを撮影しておきました）

日本でもこんなセッションを見せたい。
Watching Disney’s SXSW session “The Future of World-Building at Disney” reminded me of why I decided to start a global event management business in Japan 35 years ago. In the 1990s, I was shocked by the dramatic difference between Japan’s academic-style conferences and America’s entertainment-focused ones. I was incredibly excited!
Despite having almost no money back then, I visited numerous conferences in Las Vegas and Silicon Valley to study their operations. (I think I’ve written about this on Facebook before.)
Even today, sessions like these are rarely seen in Japan. Within a one-hour session, the scene changed multiple times, featuring theatrical-style presentations, demonstrations, and dynamic interactions. Keynotes and feature sessions overseas are never improvised on the spot—they’re so polished that you wonder how many rehearsals they must have had. And it’s the CEO-level executives from each company who deliver these presentations. Back then, while staying up all night attending rehearsals with figures like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, I felt that the difference in conference enthusiasm directly reflected the difference in global presence.
By the way, this venue with 2,000 attendees had enormous teleprompter monitors hanging from the ceiling for the presenters. (I took photos of the teleprompters during the break.)
